We don’t offer programs but people. At church Jesus gives us two gifts at once. In the Lord’s Supper, Jesus gives us his body and blood for the forgiveness of our sins. And he gives us the body of Christ, that is, each other. Because we are tied to Jesus, we are tied to one another. We belong to a people who have one hope, one faith, one baptism, one Lord. We spend time together at church so that we can listen to one another, rejoice with one another, bear one another’s burdens, live together and die together. We don’t just come to church for us. We come to church for each other, so that we may be built up into him who is our head: Jesus.
